What to Expect When Visiting Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Get to interact with a local family over a safe and hygienic home-made meal and cooking class. Experience India’s culture and diversity by interacting with like-minded people over authentic food only found in the homes of people.

Kodavas are a mountain tribe who are proud of being very progressive and forward in their approach to life. They are a fun loving community who are passionate about their food (especially pork and bamboo shoots). Dancing to drum beats (Kotte) and sounds of the unique bugle (Valaga) is how they end most feasts. Being a small community, they like to follow food habits and traditions to the best of their ability. Most of the food is rice based as that is the grain they grow. Coffee is their cash crop and recently Kodagu (Coorg) coffee was voted the best flavoured coffee in the world. Smitha ensures you go back with wonderful food memories but after sipping on some brilliant coffee.

She will teach you how to cook a few dishes which you can try out once back home!

The entire experience will last around 2-3 hours.

Please note – This is not a professional cooking class but rather an opportunity to cook and dine with a local home-chef. The experience will be as much about the stories around the food and local culture, as it would be about the meal itself.
