The ancient city with number of temples, serves as a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site in TamilNadu. The city is also famous for its silk sarees, having a row of Silk merchants flanking the sides of Raja Veethi. The city of Kanchipuram has many temples.

Architecturally beautiful Kailasanathar Temple:

The temple was first of its kind of stone architecture as compared to others in Pallava that were stone carved or rock cut. The foundation made of granite withstands the load of the entire massive structure. With over 58 shrines made in niches of the compound wall, the temple stands out as an epitome of construction with sandstone. Pillars of the mandapa have statues of lions standing on their hind legs, symbolizing people not to harm the temple.

Varadharaja Perumal Temple:

Temple is situated at the eastern corner of Kancheepuram. Lofty Towers and lengthy walls bear testimony to the fame of the temple. The height of East Tower is 125 feet; width 99 feet. The height of West Tower is 96 feet and width 92.5 feet.
