Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Leh.

Stop At: Likir, Likir, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
From Leh airport we head to Likir village – home to the rare artform of Likir Pottery. For the upcoming days, we’ll be staying here with an artist family who are also neighbors of the potters. We’ll acclimatise and spend our evening interacting with the artists and each other, setting expectations, and being introduced to the history and craft of this ancient pottery.

Day 2: Learn Pottery, Visit Likir Monastery

Stop At: Likir Monastery, Likir 194101 India
Introduction to hand-built pottery, its tools, see how the clay is prepared and get familiar with it. We’ll learn to mould the clay in basic shapes and form.

In the afternoon, we will visit the eleventh century Likir monastery.

Day 3: Pottery Lessons + Half day Trek

Stop At: Likir 194101
In the morning, we will learn various hand-building techniques. In the noon, we will trek to a peak that no guidebook mentions.

It offers a stunning panoramic view of seven villages and seven waterbodies.

Day 4: Pottery Lessons + Alchi Monastery

Stop At: Alchi Monastery, Alchi 194106 India
Today we’ll start working on our own ceramic product (the master potter and facilitators will guide you through the process)

Post lunch, we will visit one of the monastic jewels of Ladakh – Alchi Monastery, get to know it’s history and what makes it unique.

Day 5: Pottery Lessons + Saspol

Stop At: Saspol, Saspol, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
Continue working on our ceramic product. You are free to create whatever you fancy. The team will help you in the process.

After a picnic lunch by the river, we will visit the centuries old Gon-nila-phuk painted caves.

Day 6: Pottery lessons + Nubra Valley

Stop At: Sangam, Sangam, Nagpur District, Maharashtra
Today, we will finish your ceramic object. If time permits, we can also decorate and glaze it.

In the afternoon, we will say goodbye to our local host family and the pottery masters and head towards Nubra valley.

Enroute, we will stop at Sangam – the confluence of Indus and Zanskar river.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Panamik, Panamik, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
We’ll visit the Panamic hotsprings, take a dip in the warm water. At night, we will camp under the sky, gazing intently at the billion stars.

Day 7: Nubra valley

Stop At: Nubra Valley, Nubra Valley, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
We’ll visit the sand dunes, watch the double humped Bactrian camel and pay visit to remote 600-year-old Ensa Monastery.

Day 8: Turtuk – Leh

Stop At: Turtuk, Turtuk, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
Turtuk is the northernmost village of India. It’s the only region in India populated by Balti people. We’ll visit a heritage house and museum, polo grounds, and then have a traditional lunch.

Post lunch, we will start our return journey to Leh. Enroute, we pass through Khardung-la, one of the highest motorable passes in the world.

In the evening, we will wander around Leh market, checking out local drinks, food, crafts and traditional souvenirs.

Day 9: Leh

Stop At: Soma Gompa, Leh 194101 India
Early morning, we will hike to Soma Gompa and get a panoramic view of Leh town.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, wave goodbye to this spellbinding land as you fly home with stories, an artistic trait and a self-made memento of your time spent in Ladakh.
