Rajabai Clock Tower is housed in The University of Mumbai campus. It is a world heritage site. built in 1878. As we drive by we stop to take photos. Next to it is the Bombay High Court building as well as the Oval cricket ground.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus formerly known as Victoria Terminus built in 1888 is one of the oldest and grandest railway station of India and Asia. The magnificent building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The impressive building is designed in the High Victorian Gothic style of architecture. Opposite to the station is another impressive tall heritage building. The Bombay Municipal Corporation building built in 1884. We stop here to take pictures.
Marine Drive is also known as the Queen’s Necklace
It is a Boulevard drive by the sea. The road also displays art-deco style building which were popular in 1930s.
The Hanging Gardens, is also known as Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens. It’s a 125 year old park built on a hill over a water reservoir. They provide sunset views over the Arabian Sea and feature numerous green hedges carved into the shapes of animals. Next to it is the Kamala Nehru Park which is a part of the Hanging Gardens. It is a botanical garden. The highlight is the panorama view of the Queen Necklace and the City.
Gandhi House which is also know as Mani Bhavan is a museum and historical building dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. This place exhibits Gandhi’s life in pictures, texts, films and other displays. It also features a room housed by Gandhi.
The Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat (Open Air Laundry) This is a 138 year old open air laundromat. This is the few surviving traditional commercial laundry. The washer-men are known as Dhobis’ they work in the open to clean and dry clothes.
The Bandra–Worli Sea Link is modern is a cable stayed bridge. We drive by crossing the Island city to main land Suburb of Bandra. As we drive up you can see the old Worli fort and fishing village.
This is a beautiful Roman Catholic Church originally built in the 16th century later rebuilt in 1761. The current church building was renovated in 1904. The architecture is a semi – Gothic structure.
Castella de Aguada popularly known as the Bandra Fort. It was built by the Portuguese in 1640. This is a serine place you will get a panoramic view of the Arabian sea and the view of the other side of the city.
This is a interesting educational and cultural center. The memorial to India’s first Prime Minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. The building is a State of the Art Architecture and Design completed in 1977. It has a Library, Art Gallery, Culture Wing, Exhibition Hall. The Highlight is “Discovery of India” a lifelong exhibition depicting every aspect of artistic, intellectual and philosophical attainment of India through ages. This exposition seeks to determine true identity of the country
Kala Ghoda is Mumbai’s prime art district. This area has great architectural buildings includes the famous Prince of Wales Museum, National Gallery of Modern Art, the Iconic Jehangir Art Gallery and the Sir David Sassoon Library. We can stop here
Horniman Circle Gardens is a large park built in 1842. It is situated in the Fort business district, hence you can view the surrounding old office building of the country’s premier organizations. Opposite to the park is the impressive Town Hall building now knows as Asiatic Society of Bombay Library.
St. Thomas Cathedral is the first Anglican Church. The foundation laid in 1676 and opened in 1718. It is one of the oldest heritage buildings. It is has won UNESCO Asia-Pacific heritage conservation award. It has monuments, plaques, religious art and lots of interesting stories.
