There were five different sultanates which ruled Delhi from 1191 to 1526 and then the Mughals came in power. Delhi is divided into two parts. Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi was founded by fifth Mughal emperor Shahjahan who made it his capital and named it Shahjahanabad. But New Delhi was founded by the Britishers when they were in rule.

India gate is a war memorial located astride the Rajpath, on the eastern edge of the “ceremonial axis” of New Delhi, formerly called Kingsway.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official home of the president of India but it was built by the british government for their viceroy.

In Old Delhi, a neighborhood dating to the 1600s, stands the imposing Mughal-era Red Fort, a symbol of India, and the sprawling Jama Masjid mosque, whose courtyard accommodates 25,000 people. Nearby is Chandni Chowk, a vibrant bazaar filled with food carts, sweets shops and spice stalls.
