ISKCON temple is a part of the popular Hare Krishna movement. Inside the temple, see elaborate decorations that depict scenes from the life of the Hindu God, Krishna.
The Lotus Temple is a Baha’i temple. This splendid white, lotus shaped temple is the last of seven major Baha’i temples in the world. The temple is made of pure marble. The lotus shape of the temple was chosen by the architect because it is a symbol common to some of the major religions of India, namely Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam. Around the petals of the temple are nine pools of water that look spectacular in the natural light.
Located in South Delhi the Chhatarpur Temple complex is spread over an area of approximately 60 acres. This complex is the second largest temple complex in India. Learn about the South Indian architectural influences that are evident in the marble façade and explore the many shrines of the temple complex with your guide.
Final stop before lunch is Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, an important pilgrimage site for the Sikhs. Located next to the Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi, the golden dome and tall flagpole of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is an important landmark of New Delhi. The Gurdwara was originally a mansion of the Maharaja of Jaipur. The eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan stayed here during his visit to Delhi in1664. He tended to the sick during the cholera and smallpox epidemic in Delhi from this mansion. Later he himself succumbed to the disease. A small water tank stands in the precincts of the Gurdwara. Its waters are believed to have curative properties. A school and an art gallery are also located within the Gurdwara.
The temple has featured in the Guiness Book of World Records as the world’s largest comprehensive Hindu temple. It took five years and 11 000 artisans and volunteers to construct this temple that was opened to the public in 2005. There are over nine domes, 230 intricately carved pillars, 148 life sized elephants and over 20 000 idols in the temple.
Your last stop for the day will be the Lakshmi Narayan temple, popularly known as Birla Mandir. It is the first of a series of temples built over India by the industrialist and philanthropist Birla family. It was built in 1939 and is dedicated to the Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of Prosperity) and Lord Narayan (the Preserver). The temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi on condition that people from all walks of life be permitted to enter it. Take part in the evening aarti (prayers) here.
Once your tour will be finished you will be driven back to fixed point / your hotel.
