Day 1: Bhubaneshwar

Pass By: Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India
From your International airport in India, fly to Bhubaneshwar. Upon arrival at Bhubaneshwar, meet & greet with our Tour Escort or representative to transfer you to your pre-booked hotel. Check in to your room & free for the rest of the days.

Day 2: Bhubaneshwar

Stop At: Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India
Visit of Temples from 6th to 11th Century AD, Caves of 3rd Century BC, Museum of Art & Craft Kalabhoomi, Museum of Tribal Communities.

Bhubaneshwar is the Temple City of India, once upon a time was holding 7000 temples around the city. Now with 500 temples from the period of 05th to 11th Century AD, this Capital of Odisha is visited by many tourist from different parts of India & Abroad. Among all the Temples, Important Temples visited are Chronologically in Order Parasurameshwar, Mukteshwar, Rajarani, Brahmeshwar, Vaital & Lingaraj Temples. These Temples belonging to different period of construction reflecting different changes in the plan & 11th Century Lingaraj Temples is the Culmination point of the Temple Construction at Bhubaneshwar with the complete collection of all the Four Halls of Odiya Architecture Style.

Khandagiri & Udaigiri Jain Caves, dating back from 03rd to 01st century BC are telling the royal, social & cultural life of the King & the People of Kalinga. Out of 92 Caves, there are caves dedicated to the Jain Monks, Hindu Deities & the Queens Cave depicting the story of Royal Celebration at the Caves are worth visit.

Tribal Museum (Closed on Monday & Local Holidays) is an excellent place to visit during the sightseeing of Bhubaneshwar. It has got the best collection of Tribal people from all over Odisha. Display of the Jewelries, artifacts & the technology used to understand it in the best possible way will take hours to roam around the place. It has got a nice library, souvenir shop & a restaurant serving Tribal food. Photography is prohibited inside the museum.

Kalabhoomi, Art & Craft museum is a great collection of the Odiya artisans showing their skill on different items. IKAT weaving, Patta Painting, Dokra metal works, Silver filigree works & many more are the attraction of this Museum to the visitors exploring the artistic expression of Odisha people.

Day 3: Bhubaneshwar – Puri – Konark – Bhubaneshwar

Day Excursion trip to World Heritage site Konark Sun temple, Chaushathi Yogini temple, Puri Jagannath Dham & Raghurajpur Intac supervised village of Artisans.

Chaushathi Yogini Temple with it’s Unique Architectural Style is One of the Best Preserved Yogini Temples of India. At Heerapur Village, which is also famous for the Bell Metal Workers for their skill, the visit to the temple is also a nice trip to enjoy a completely different atmosphere & temple architecture of Odisha. It’s locally now worshiped by the Priests. 64 Yoginis with their Unique hair style & different vehicles having carved on the niches of this small temple & Durga at the center is worshiped at this small shrine. But with the reference from the ASI, it’s believed to be built during the time of Buddhism flourished in this area of Odisha. It was used by the Buddhist people who were follower of Tantra Practice.

Sun Temple of Konark, one of the Heritage Sites of India is the Culmination of Odiya Architecture. Described by Poet Rabindranath Tagore, The Language of Stones have defeated the Language of Human Being is Well Defined on the Temple Wall of Konark Sun Temple. Built in a form of Chariot, this Temple has attracted the Tourist from all over the World for the Stone Work Style & Description. Built in the form of Chariot, drawn by 07 horses representing seven days of the week & Seven colours of Rainbow,this Temple represents the visit of Sun God from East to West controlling the time. 24 wheels around the Hall Of Prayer representing the 24 Fortnights of the Year is an unique creation of Sun Dial. With all the spectacular Sculptures related to Time engraved on this Temple wall is a great piece of Monument to visit.

Puri is One of the Four Dhams of Hindu people, which is believed to be like Mecca for Muslims. As this Place known as Sankha Khetra & the Temple Idols represent all the Three Concepts of Hinduism, Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva, One Hindu can come to this Place to complete the Pilgrimage in case not able to visit the All Four Dhams in Four Corners of India. Jagannath Temple is allowed for Hindus only. We will use the Platform (Closed on Sunday & Local Holidays) in front of the Temple to watch the activities partially inside the temple. Every Year, during June/July the Grand Chariot Festival of the Temple Attracts around One Million People around the World to this place.

Raghurajpur : Declared as the Heritage Village of Odisha, Raghurajpur is the only place where you can experience the Artisans working on the Silk, Paper, Beatle Nuts, Coconuts, Cow Dung, Coir & many more. The Traditional Patta Painters of Odisha live in this village in the different parts like Dandasahi, Nayakpatna & Raghurajpur are now experts making different kinds of Artistic useful house hold materials for the market which are worth buying from them. Your visit will introduce to the Age Old Patta Painting workers in the village & their working style.

Day 4: Bhubaneshwar – Mangalajodi on Chilika Lake – Gopalpur On Sea

Stop At: Mangalajodi, 70 Km. South-West Of Bhubaneswar Off NH 16 Four Km. Southeast Of Tangi Town, Khurda India
After a leisurely breakfast, you will be driving to Mangalajodi on Chilika Lake & then continue the drive to Goplapur On sea for Two nights stay

Mangalajodi on Chilika Lake : Out of three entries of Chilika Lake, Mangalajodi on Chilika Lake is the best to enjoy the Sanctuary & Eco system on the lake. 8-9 varieties of migratory birds have become resident in this part of the Lake. Boating at the lake by the Hand Rowing boat is the best experience. Chilika Lake is the Largest Brackish Water Lake of Asia spreading over 1100 sq kms of area. This lake accommodates Migratory Birds during December to April from Siberia, Australia & many more countries of the world. Some of the birds now have made their permanent home at this lake & the visit can be made from the Mangalajodi Eco Tourism Village which is a 2hrs journey from Bhubaneshwar. Wild Asiatic Irrawaddy Dolphins are One of the Major Attractions for the Tourist coming for the Visit to the Lake & seen in the side of Satpada on Chilika Lake which is a 2hours journey from Puri.. To see the Migratory Birds like Pelicans, Flamingos & many important species, during Winter, one has to reach Barkul on Chilika Lake which is a 2hrs drive from Bhubaneshwar. Visit to the Lake also allows the clients to watch the Fishermen’ activities & Pilgrims visiting Kalijai Temple in the island. There are many islands in this Lake & some of them are still not connected with the road. People use the Big Boats for their means of Transportation.

Day 5: Gopalpur – Taptapani Sulfur spring shrine – Chandragiri tibetan settlement – Gopalpur

Stop At: Taptapani Hot Water Springs, Near Deer Park 56 kms from Berhampur Railway Station, Ganjam India
This is an excursion trip to see the IKAT Weavers of Odisha at Padmanavpur village, Sulfur spring shrine at Taptapani & Tibetan Monastery & their settlement at Chandragiri

Taptapani is the Entry Point to the Tribal Belt of South Odisha. This is famous for the Hot Sulphur Spring. There is a Shrine of Goddess Kali which is believed to be the Goddess of the area & worshiped by the Tribal People with the believe that the Hot Water in the Mountain is the Anger of the Goddess & Prayer will make her happy enabling them to get the blessing.

Chandragiri is now known for the Tibetan Refugee settlement. Since last 55years, Govt. of Odisha has allowed the Tibetan Refugees to live their life here in this area. This Buddhist people live their life peacefully with the Saura Tribal people. There is a nice Monastery built with the help of Swiss Govt. here & the people also have a weaving center where they produce nice carpets. Chandragiri Tibetan Settlement is a worth visit with the Stupas & Monastery of the Tibetan Buddhist Culture & sharing their Life with the Saura Tribal Group since 1950 with the help of Odisha Govt for their settlement. We visit Nice Tribal Hamlets of Saura Tribal Groups & Desia Kondh Groups.

Day 6: Gopalpur – Daringbadi – Belghar. THIS MUST BE A MONDAY

Stop At: Padmanavpur, Odisha, India
After a leisurely breakfast, our drive will be into the area of the Kondh tribal group, the largest amount the ethnic communities. We will be visiting the IKAT Weavers first.

Ikat in Odisha is a kind Resist dyeing technique, originating from this land. This is also known as Bandha of Odisha. It’s made through a process of tie-dying the warp & weft threads to create the design on the loom prior to weaving. It’s different than the Ikat woven in the rest of the country because of it’s design process, which has been called “poetry on the loom”. The design is in vogue only in Western & Eastern Odisha produced by the community groups called Bhulia, Kostha, Asani & Patara. The fabric gives a striking curvilinear appearance. Saris made out of this fabric feature bands of brocade in the borders & also at the end called Anchal or Pallu & forms are purposefully feathered giving the edges a hazy & fragile appearance.

Stop At: Daringbadi, Daringbadi, Kandhamal District, Odisha
After our visit of the weaving village, we will proceed towards Daringbadi. On the way of our drive to Baliguda, we will visit some of the villages of Tatoo faced Kondh community & spend some time interacting with them.

Kutia Kondh is one of the Primitive Groups of Kondh society live in Phulbani & Kondhamal District. The name derives from the word KUTIA. Kutia means Thatch Roof Houses looks like a whole as per Local language. Kutia means the people who makes the Tattoos on the Body & the technique of making Tattoos is called KUT locally. The women makes these tattoos of Floral & Geometrical style depending upon the clan they belong to. The belief of making these tattoos to be recognized by their men in the society, which still survives after death.

Day 7: Baliguda. Trekking to the Kondh villages.

Stop At: Baliguda, Baliguda, Kandhamal District, Odisha
Visit to the villages around Baliguda enjoying the trek to the Tatoo faced Kondh community. The Local community guide will help us reaching the villages of their group & we will spend some time interacting & experiencing their way of life since ages in these villages.

Day 8: Baliguda – Dongariya Kondh weekly market – Gaudaguda Sahi

Stop At: Bissamcuttack, Odisha 765019, India
Early morning with an early breakfast we will leave for the visit to the weekly market of Dongariya Kondh community near Bissam Cuttack.

Dongariya Kondh is one of the very interesting Kondh group in Kondhmala district living in the Niyamagiri Hill Range. Once upon a time for the Good Crops, they were sacrificing Human being which was stopped before independence by the British Govt.. The men & women of this society decorate themselves in the same way & only difference of the jewelries is the Nose ring, which are Two in Numbers with the Boys & Three for Girls. The Name Dongariya derives from the Local name of Dongar means Hill slope. This group live on the Hill slope as well as cultivate these slopes & produce varieties of Fruits & Vegetables as well as herbs used for the Medicine. They are also well known for their age old tradition of Shawl weaving used by both men & women, saying about their Nature Gods thru their intricate designs on cotton fabrics. These shawls are very important for the community girls & boys used for the selection of their life partners.

After the visit is over, we will drive to our next destination Gaudaguda Sahi. You will be checking into a very charming community run charming property in the village. Check in & relax or can go for a walk around the nearby potters’ village.

Day 9: Visit to the Weekly market of Bonda/Gadhaba/Dadayee group

Stop At: Onukudelli, Odisha 764042, India
The visit of today is the most colourful & ethnic community of Odisha. We will also visit the village of Gadhaba community on our way back to the Lodge.

We will have an early morning departure of around 0500hrs
We will have a late lunch around 1400hrs..

Bonda Tribe, lives at the altitude of 1000mtrs above the sea level. The Strong believe in the society still prevails & the women of this group keep their head shaved cover with a nicely made Bead Cap fixed with clips & grass made rope. Their Body covered with Colourfull Beads, Neck with Aluminum Neck Rings & hands covered with Aluminum bracelets make them the most colourfull & beautiful among all the Tribal groups available in South Odisha. The Bonda Men marry Elder women in their society. This Group has got completely different life style & practices which makes them unique & different from the other Tribes of Orissa. They have their own dialect which has not been cultured till date by any one.

Gadhaba or Gadaba are believed to the Ancestors of Bondo Group who came down the Hills & out of Jungle & settled themselves in the plain land of Koraput in South Orissa. The Main Subdivision is Bara Gadhaba and Sana Gadhaba. But there are many more Gadhaba groups in their society. The Women of this Group use Heavy Silver Neck rings after marriage which is about a kelo of weight & removed only after death by the blacksmith & goes to the First Daughter in law of the house. Now a days due to the Influence of Modern society & their mingling with the common society & job out of their village has forced them to change their Traditional Costume. Still in the remote villages One can find the people practicing the Age Old Rituals.

Day 10: Koraput visiting Paraja weekly market

Stop At: Kunduli, Odisha, India
Morning we will be visiting the Paraja villages & largest weekly market of South Odisha at Kunduli

Paraja is derived from Praja which means the Inhabitants under the control of a King of the people of the country/villages. These people are very colorful by their costume & hard working. They work on the fields, roads & grow varieties of vegetables & sell them in the market & live a good life compare to the other Tribes of Orissa. They still practice a strong Social Rituals & worship their Ancestral Gods & Goddess as well as the Nature.

We will visit the village around Gaudaguda sahi. This Paraja people will organise music & dance program during your visit. Enjoy the visit of the village & their cultural program

Day 11: Visit to the Tribal weaving village at Kotpad and Koraput Jagannath temple

Stop At: Kotapad, Odisha 764058, India
Morning visit to the Kotpad weavers village.

Kotpad weavers are the Group of Weavers who were working on the Pit Looms for the centuries supplying the cloth to the Tribes around the Border of Odisha & Chhatishgar. They work on IKAT (Tie & Dye) system only on Cotton. They use the Colour which are only Black, Maroon & the base used is mostly White. The Colour Powder is prepared from the Root of the Tree available in this area which is available only in Maroon Colour. To make it Black, they use Rust Iron or Iron Powder. To keep the colour strong for a longer time, they use Caster Oil & Cow Dung Processing system with certain temperature of the Sun light. Presently with the help of the NGOs they have started working on Silk.

Pass By: Koraput, Koraput, Koraput District, Odisha
On the way back from Kotpad weaving village, we will be visiting Jagannath temple at Koraput.

It is believed that Jagannath Temple at Koraput is the Birth Place of the Jagannath Cult. From this place Vishnu in the form of Blue Stone Idol worshiped by the Sabara King vanished when the Puri King wanted to take away the statue. Later on they were worshiped in the wooden form by the Hindu devotees. Foreigners are allowed here inside the Sanctum Sanctorum. This temple preserves the Mural Painting of Odisha on different occasions the women paint in different places. In this temple also nice statues of different forms & incarnation are sculpted on the niches of the wall.

Day 12: Gaudaguda Sahi – Vishakhapatnam

After a leisurely breakfast you will be driving to Vishakhapatnam, a state of Andhra Pradesh on the Sea. Check in to the hotel.

Afternoon visit to the Simanchalam temple area & enjoy a sun set view from the mountain top of Simanchalam area. Visit the temple built in a mixed style of East India & Gopuram of South India on the border giving the name as Sima(Border) Anchalam (area). This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Lion Incarnation giving the name to this temple as Sinha(Lion) chalam (Abode).
