What makes Old Delhi Heritage Walking tour with Rickshaw Ride a unique experience ?
Our first stop would be at Red Fort, a UNESCO world heritage site;it was built by the fifth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahanin the year 1639, which is better known as replica of Red Fort of Agra. Delhi’s red Fort was residence of Mughals for nearly 200 years. During the revolt of 1857, the last Mughal Emperor was trailed in this fort and then exiled to Yangon (Formerly known as Rangoon).
The red sandstone work and the vastness of the entire place is bound to mesmerise you and awestruck you. The beautiful parts of red Fort are Rang Mahal (Color Palace), Diwane- E- Aam (Normal Audience Hall) and Diwane-e- Khas (Private audience Hall).Red Fort has been witness of not only Mughal Empire, but also of British Empire. On every Independence Day, the Prime Minister hoists a flag at the main gate and delivers a nationally broadcasted speech, since the independence of India was declared officially on 15th August 1947 here.
While walking through the lanes in the morning hours of Old Delhi, with no hustle bustle of traffic, Old Delhi would give you a more bonhomie feeling and within minutes we would be at our next vantage point Gurudwara SisGanj sahib. The word “sis” translates to head and legend says that this place is a tribute to the ninth guru of Sikh community guru TegBahadur, who was beheaded in the same place. The white walls are a sign of tranquillity and are bound to create a serene aura and take you on a journey of peace and self-discovery.
After visiting Gurudwara Sis Ganj, we shall proceed tospice market by e-rickshaw (battery operated three tyre vehicles), just before entering this aromatic place on your left-hand side you would pass Fatehpuri Mosque, built by Emperor Shah Jahan, it again showcases the love of then ruler for architect, precision and perfection. While your eyes would relish this beauty, your nostrils would be filled with the strong flavours of the spices.
You would experience Indian flavours just by entering into the spice market, whichis famous for welcoming the tourists with aroma. Spice Market or better known KhariBaoliis the largest spice market of Asia. You can decode the reason here, why India has been always referred as the land of spices.Spice traders are running their family business for last seven-eight generations. Wander around the spice market and explore, how each shop tells history.
We shall thenhead toNau-Ghara, where we will go through narrow lanes by rickshaw (a three wheeled vehicle operated by man). The Nau-Ghara word translates to nine mansions, which were built for the royal Jain jewellers and today out of nine, only two remain. The colourful houses with carving windows and small decorated doors flaunt the rich taste and heritage of then Emperor. Besides, you will visit here 500 years old Jain Temple. Emperor Shah Jahan rebuilt this Jain Temple just to honour his royal jewellers. The GaliNaughara is an oasis of tranquillity amongst the hustle bustle of busy streets of ChandiniChowk. We shall now move towards Jama Mosque.
Jama Mosque is the largest mosque here in India. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan between the years 1649 to 1656, this mosque accommodates 25000 people at a time. Red sandstone and marble again depict Shah Jahan’s immense love for Persian architecture. The three dome structure is a wide open space with beautiful calligraphy upon its walls, the minarets are then times skyscrapers that give you a bird eye-view of the city. We would let you explore the very last stop of our itinerary after which it’d be time to bid adieu.
After spending a beautiful day with us we shall drop you off at your preferred place of stay or departure point with a hope that the memories you made today would make you come back to India and explore its other parts.
