Stop At: Qutub Minar, Qutb Minar, Mehrauli, New Delhi 110030 India

This experience will showcase the advent of Islamic architecture and religious practices in India. You will learn about the first Muslim rulers of Delhi and the changes in culture, customs, and urban milieu that their rule brought about. You will observe the earliest examples of domes and arches in India and see the fusion of Hindu carving skills with Muslim technology and design. A must for all history and architecture buffs. The Qutab Minar is best known as a soaring tower, puncturing the south Delhi sky with its 72 metre (235 feet) height. Yet there is much more to this complex than the 800-year-old minaret, with numerous other ancient structures, in various states of disrepair, scattered across the surrounding area. Construction of this UNESCO world heritage site began in about 1192, under the direction of the first Sultan of Delhi – Qutab-ud-din Aibak. The most prominent mosque in the complex – the Qubbat-al-Islam – was finished by the early 1200s, but not until 1368 was the fifth and final storey of the Qutab Minar completed, following damage from two lightning strikes in the preceding years.
